30-Sep-2010: July - September Newsletter 2010
General News
The holiday period is well and truly over now and we are back in business with full classes again. It is good to see you all back and ready for another term of dedicated training. Although it has been a quiet July and August we have had a number of events that need a mention:
GCSE’s
The first of these is the GSCE successes gained in August by Richard Evans and Bradley Anstee. We are pleased to announce that they both passed every single one of them A*- C. This was also while hardly ever missing a karate class throughout the revision period. Well done both of you, with a special note to Richard who achieved all A*s with the exception of one and even that was an A!
Kobudo
Gabriel Weyman was successful in gaining his Nidan (2nd level black belt) in Kobudo this month. This pass was also ratified by the President of our association in Okinawa. Most students will know Sensei Gabe as he often takes the children’s karate classes when we are away on courses. They very much enjoy the variation he has to offer too coming from a Shotokan background.
Okinawa - Kobudo
Sensei Andre has recently returned from Okinawa where he took part in their annual kobudo competition. He narrowly missed a
medal but felt this was a great achievement at this level, given
the fact that he was learning his Kata for his next Yon Dan
grade.
Jimmy
Jimmy, our grandson, is now 15 weeks old and it has been a hair-raising ride to date! His
heart operation was brought forward twice in the last 6 weeks as he was
beginning to struggle and he finally became a high priority case for
open heart surgery 3 weeks ago. He was flown from Adelaide to Melbourne, where his surgery was performed and he remained there for 2 weeks. We
are so pleased to say that after a couple of days in intensive care he
has made an amazing recovery and he is now a picture of health and joy.
P.S. We have just found
out that grandchild no. 2 is on the way from one of our other children –
they are coming like buses now (and so will the grey hair methinks)!
Student of the Month for July 2010:
***********************************
Giles McCarthy
***********************************
Giles is a complete pleasure to teach. He is a good listener, really tries hard and has bags of talent. On top of this he is always smiling – what more could we ask for? Well done Giles, you are going from strength to strength – keep up the good work.
Student of the Month for August 2010:
***********************************
Harry Davies
***********************************
Harry joined us a number of years ago and after attaining his purple belt he decided to take a break for a while. He has certainly come back with a vengeance and is working extremely hard to catch up the lost year. He too has been going from strength to strength and coupled with a mature attitude he is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with! Well done Harry.
Student of the Month for September 2010:
****************************************
Connor McClleland
****************************************
Connor joined us at the same time as his Dad, Jon and both of them have become regular and active students. We
have seen Connor grow in all areas over the last few months – attitude,
maturity and skills. His karate is now beginning to have more ‘oomph’
to it and he is focussing much more on new skill sets. Well done Connor and definitely keep up the hard work,
