Cape Crusaders

At the end of September / early October both Sensei Andre and Sensei Daphne attended the GKI

Goodwill Festival in Cape Town, South Africa. This event was to commemorate the 40th year of

our Chief Instructor Shihan James Rousseau in Karate. Our main training was with Sensei Teruo

Chinen in Goju Ryu Karate and Sensei Hennie De Vries in Ryukyu Kobudo. This culminated in a

tournament in which Sensei Daphne got six golds and a silver, while Sensei Andre got four golds

and three bronze medals.

Ryukyu Masters Visit

During October the Dojo had a very special visit from Kaicho Akamine and Shihan Kuniyoshi

from Okinawa in Japan. The Sensei’s are from the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai (our

traditional Okinawan weapons association). The visit was a two week tour of the UK and Israel.

There were two seminars organised in Liverpool and Camberley Martial Arts organised the

seminar in the South in Farnborough. We also had Yui San and Manami San stay with us during

the two week tour and we hope most of you met them while they were here.
