15-Nov-2010: October - November Newsletter 2010
General News
It has been a busy couple of karate months with more to come before the end of the year. October
saw the National Championships in Liverpool and the World Championships
in Stellenbosch, South Africa, while November held our local junior
gradings and the Open Training Course and AGM in Stratford. There is still more to come. Later this month there is training in Worthy Down with our chief Instructor, the Junior 1st kyu and black belt grading in Bournemouth and the Winter Gasshuku plus 1kyu and black belt grading in the Wirral……and then it will be the Christmas run up………….so no rest for the wicked!
The National Championships
The following students enter the Nationals:
Senior: Robert Harcup, Paul Howard, John McClleland
Junior:
Steven Brown, Jonathan Anstee, Daniel Anstee, Luke Elson, Sian Elson,
Elliot McCarthy, Zak Portlock-Thorogood, Connor McClleland
The
competition took place on the Sunday so we all travelled up together in
a coach and spent a pleasant Saturday evening wining and dining. This set the mood for an enjoyable week-end and the companionship alone made the trip worth while.
Every student gave of their best on the day and performed to an exemplary level. We
saw Luke fighting at his best level ever and Daniel manfully squaring
up to the biggest boy in his group, with no outward sign of fear, even
if he felt it inside. We
would like to remind all our students that bullies only ever pick on
people who look like victims i.e. someone who looks like an easy target,
so just looking strong and confident is the key to a peaceful and safe
life. Well done to everyone who took the time and effort to take part. We are extremely proud of each and every one of you. As an added bonus the end results were fantastic for the club as well:
Runner Up (Silver) National Champion for Mens Brown/Black Belt – Robert Harcup
Bronze National Champion for Mens Kyu Grades – John McClleland
National Champion for Kumite Boys under 16 – Steven Brown
National Champion for Kumite Boys under 12 – Connor McClleland
Runner Up (Silver) National Champion for Kumite Boys under 16 – Jonathan Anstee
Runner Up (Silver) National Champion for Kumite Boys under 14 - Elliot McCarthy
Bronze National Champion for Kata Boys under 16 – Steven Brown
Runner Up (Silver) National Champions for under 14 group kata – Elliot McCarthy, Zak Portlock-Thorogood and Connor McClleland
n.b. Sian Elson was preparing to fight for the bronze medal but had to withdraw due to a hand injury. Well done anyway Sian.
World Championship – Stellenbosch, Cape Town, South Africa
At
the end of October we joined our England national squad in South Africa
for a weeks training followed by the world championship on the
Saturday. As usual the camaraderie was great, the weather fantastic and a good time was had by all. The national squads did very well with the ladies gaining gold and the men’s B team the silver. Individually
we did not fare so well, with the exception of one of our ladies who
won the gold and a kyu grade from tooting dojo who won the bronze in his
section. The rest of us
were knocked out in the early rounds, but although it is great to win,
it really is the taking part that counts and the experience is always
invaluable.

***********************************
Nahim Rashid
***********************************
Nahim is an exemplary member of the dojo. He
is always courteous and polite and is a pleasure to teach. He
concentrates and works hard at improving his techniques. This effort was
reflected in his recent grading, as his basic techniques were performed
to a very high standard for his grade. Well done Nahim and keep up the good work.
Student of the Month for: November 2010

Victoria Anstee
***********************************
Victoria is another student who concentrates fully on her training and the hard work has certainly paid off. She has gone from strength to strength recently and the improvement in her karate is very noticeable. She is mature in attitude, always helpful and a delight to teach. Well done Victoria.

Dates for your Diary
Please note the following dates on your calendars:
Saturday 20th November 2010 Training
Training at Worthy Down in Hampshire with our Chief Instructor Sensei Ernie, Sensei Roy (7 Dan) and Sensei Simon (5 Dan).
Please see the Senseis if you are interested in taking part and for further information.
Sunday 28th November 2010 – Junior Grading
Junior and Cadet 1 Kyu and Black Belt Grading in Bournemouth.
Saturday and Sunday 4th and 5th December – Winter Gasshuku, Wirral
Winter grading week-end for 1kyu’s and Black belts, plus general training.
Saturday 18th December – Children Christmas Party from 10.00 – 12.00
Planning a Christmas party to entertain students aged between 5 and 16 years is no easy task. With this in mind, we have decided to treat the students to a 5 a-side football morning instead. We
have enough junior students now to make up teams for both the big ones
and the little ones and to run a mini morning league, complete with
penalty shoot outs.
The venue will be the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, known as Aspire’. This is easily found heading into Aldershot from the North Camp exit off the A331. We will supply more detailed directions nearer the time.
All the children will need to do is to turn up in loose sports clothing. We will provide the half time refreshments.
As
usual, the entertainment is free to all dojo students and £5.00 if your
son/daughter wishes to bring a friend along for company.
This is our way of thanking all our students and parents for supporting us so well throughout the year. It is very much appreciated.
Bubble Wrap
On
a final note could we please ask that you pass on any unwanted bubble
wrap, or packaging ‘air bags’ to us, as we use it to send out orders
from our Kimmidoll web site. We try as much as possible to be green and use recycled products for packaging whenever possible.
