Daniel Anstee

At only 11 years old Daniel continues to show a high level of maturity in all aspects of his karate.  He is respectful of dojo etiquette, regularly produces quality and technically good karate and is always keen to help out and share his expertise with new members of the dojo.  Well done Daniel, keep up the good work - you are certainly reaping the rewards of all your efforts.

Kie Brookes

Kie is one of our newer and younger members of the dojo.  We have had a sudden influx of young white belts who are all showing great promise – exciting times.  Kie is a polite and helpful boy who shows a high degree of concentration for his age.  He has adapted well to learning this new skill and is already making a good headway with the syllabus.  Well done Kie and keep on enjoying your karate.

EGKA Regional Tournament  Apr 2010

On Sunday 18th April the first of three southern junior tournaments was held in Bournemouth.  These tournaments are not only designed to help the children  grow in confidence, especially when performing in front of an audience, but will provide the framework to find an overall junior national champion, for each category, later on in the year.  The experience will also  help to prepare the children for  their gradings, as well as giving them the opportunity to meet other like minded children from different dojos and show off their skills to family and friends.

The students who took part in the competition were:

Bradley Anstee, Steven Brown,  Rajan Dhesi, Jonathan Anstee, Luke Elson, Daniel Anstee, Sian Elson,  Elliot McCarthy, Aman Dhesi.  We also had one adult competing – Paul Howard.

Thank you for supporting and representing your dojo and having the courage to stand up in front of a large audience and have your skills put to the test.  This is not as easy as it looks and we really do appreciate you all taking part.  Our thanks again also extends to all the parents who made this possible in the first place by taking and supporting the students.

Achievement Badges

Achievement badges are now a monthly feature of the training and take place on the last complete Monday and Wednesday of every month.  Mays sessions are on 24th & 26th May.  The folders are a one off price of £5.00 and thereafter each badge attained will cost £1.00.  These have been introduced for our younger students in particular so that they are able to see that they are progressing regularly.

N.B.  Please do not sew these badges on to your current gi.  This should have the IOGKF badge on it ONLY.

Tesco Vouchers for Schools and Clubs

Thank you for the donations to date and please keep them coming if you do not have other uses for them.  We always use these vouchers to buy equipment for the dojo.

Dates for your Diary

There is a lot happening this year so please note these dates on your calendars.

Sat/Sun 12th and 13th June

EGKA Summer Gradings week-end – Bournmouth.

We have 3 students attempting to grade to 1Kyu (top brown belt) attending this weekend.  This will be their first independent grading outside of the Paddock Hill dojo.  Both Sensei Andre and Sensei Daphne are qualified to grade up to Black belt levels but we expect all students wishing to attempt their 1Kyu to do so at one of the two national grading events in preparation for their Shodan (Black Belt) grading.  Please note that any students are welcome to attend the two day Gasshuku in a training capacity.

Saturday 17th July

Community Fun Day at the Mytchett Community Centre in aid of Child Line.

The dojo has accepted an invitation from the organisers to provide a karate demonstration in aid of Child Line.  Our slot in the ‘arena’ is 13.30 – 14.00.  We plan to entertain visitors with a self defence scenario, as well as performing traditional goju ryu karate and kobudo.

Please remember that for general information on the EGKA calendar of events go to the EGKA website at www.egka.org.uk or our own website at www.cmafa.co.uk
