31-Mar-2011: January - March Newsletter 2011
General News
Apologies – the end of the first quarter of the year is nearly upon us and this is the first newsletter for 2011. Our day jobs seem to be getting busier and busier and there has been much to do on the Kimmidoll front as well.
A number of excellent EGKA courses have already taken place. There was training with Sensei Ernie in Stratford in January, at Sensei Linda’s in Tooting in February and again in Stratford and Winchester in March. We
have managed to attend most of the courses and a number of our students
from both the children and adult classes also took advantage of these
opportunities to train under the tutelage of Sensei Ernie,
In
addition, Sensei Ernie is determined to standardise the bunkai across
all the EGKA clubs, to ensure that we are all working to the same set of
basic bunkai. Please remember that the bunkai you have been taught to
date is not wrong, but a variation on the interpretation of the katas. You
will be expected to demonstrate ‘Oiya’ bunkai, as it is known, at more
senior gradings, so please try to remember as much as possible of
everything you are taught.
Student of the Month for: January 2011
***********************************
Sian Elson
***********************************
Sian attends classes regularly, generally concentrates well and always tries to continuously improve. Her standard for one so young is high and she is still going from strength to strength. She
is a polite and courteous member of the dojo and shows considerable
maturity especially when instructing more junior students. Well done Sian, keep up the good work.
Student of the Month for February 2011:
***********************************
James Little
***********************************
Although
James is a quiet member of the karate class he mixes well and when he
has something to say it is generally worth listening to. He
continues to build on his karate skills and this solid foundation of
knowledge that he has amassed is reflected in the improved standard of
his karate. More recently he has started to dip in’ to the more senior Monday class and he manages to hold his own. Well done James – it is all starting to come together now and you are reaping the rewards of all your hard work.
Student of the Month for March 2011:
***********************************
Faheem Rashid
***********************************
Faheem is always smiling and is an absolute delight to teach. He is also a popular member of the club. He concentrates extremely hard for one so young and has excellent technique for his age. We have no doubts whatsoever that he will be very successful at karate if he continues in this vein. Well done Faheem and keep on smiling.
