28-Jun-2010: June Newsletter 2010

General News

We are already half way through the year and the busy karate agenda continues.  On Monday 2nd June we held a white belt only grading as we have so many young juniors now at the Wednesday class.  The standard was excellent and many congratulations to all who took part on your success.

The Summer Gasshuku in Bournemouth followed on 12th and 13th June.  We had entered three students to attempt their 1kyu (top brown belt) – Bradley Anstee, Steven Brown and Jonathan Anstee.  After training for 4 hours on Saturday we were informed that their standard was eligible to grade the next day.  Sunday saw another 2hrs general training for everyone before the grading started around 1pm.  It finished shortly after 4.pm and we are delighted to say that all three students were successful.  Well done boys, we are very proud of you.  Now starts a year of dedicated training to prepare for your black belts.

The grading day (13th June) was especially memorable for us, as half way through the grading we received a phone call to say that our first grandchild had arrived safely in Adelaide, Australia.  It was an emergency, induced birth at 5 weeks premature, as little Jimmy has been suffering from kidney problems for the last 15 weeks.  He is clearly a roughtie, toughtie however, like his grandparents, as he arrived weighing 5lbs 10 ozs and was out of neonatal intensive care within 4 hours and stepped down to the special care baby unit.  We are delighted to say that he was allowed home this Sunday 20th following some special training for his care for his Mum and Dad.

Student of the Month

Student of the Month for June 2010

***********************************

Luke Elson

***********************************

Luke works hard at improving his karate and he certainly reaped the rewards last month at the competition, when he accrued a couple of medals.  His improvement over the last year is very noticeable to both the Senseis and this has come from sheer determination and grit.  He is a reliable, friendly and popular member of the dojo.  He has also been assisting in teaching the little ones on a Wednesday which is invaluable for the growth of his karate knowledge.  Well done Luke – keep up the good work.

Achievement Badges

Achievement badges are now a monthly feature of the training and take place on the last complete Monday and Wednesday of every month.  June''''s sessions are on 28th & 30th June.

The folders are a one off price of £5.00 and thereafter each badge attained will cost £1.00.

N.B.  Please do not sew these badges on to your current gi.  This should have the IOGKF badge on it ONLY.
