13-Jun-2010: Summer Gasshuku Double Celebration

The Summer Gasshuku held at Littledown Sports Centre in Bournemouth dated 12th & 13th June 2010 was indeed a very special event for us all round.

After 4 years 3 months since the dojo opened we entered our first students to attempt their 1st Kyu (top brown belt). Although the grading could have taken place at the dojo we have always said that the students would gain valuable experience prior to taking their Shodan (black belt).
Bradley Anstee, Steven Brown and Jonathan Anstee were all very proud to represent our dojo at this event. After 4 hours of training on Saturday 12th June we were informed by Chief Instructor Sensei Ernie Molyneux (IOGKF 7th Dan) that their standard was eligible to grade the next day.

Sunday 13th June saw another 2 hours in the morning session whereby during the general training the individual groups polished their kata and bunkai before the grading started at 1 pm. It finished shortly after 4 pm and we are delighted to say that all three students were successful. Well done boys now starts a year of dedicated training towards your black belts.

The grading day Sunday 13th June 2010 was especially memorable for us, as half way through the grading we received a phone call to say that our first grandchild had arrived safely in Adelaide, Australia. It was an emergency, induced birth at 5 weeks premature, as little Jimmy has been suffering from kidney problems for the last 15 weeks. He is clearly a roughtie toughtie however, like his grandparents, as he arrived weighing 5lbs 10ozs and was out of neonatal intensive care within 4 hours and stepped down to the special care baby unit.

We were delighted to say that he was allowed home on Sunday 20th following some special training on his care for his Mum Emma and Dad Daniel.
Unfortunately during a recent scan little Jimmy has also been diagnosed with a 5mm hole in the heart which will need surgery along with his kidney surgery. As Jimmy is so small at the moment the surgeons have advised that this will need to be carried out in a couple of months when he gains some weight.
