Happy New Year
First things first, Sensei Andre and Sensei Daphne would like to wish all our students and their families a very
Happy New Year 2007. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and look forward to returning to training.
Activity Mornings
Once again the activity mornings were well attended and all had fun – we think! Apologies to all those that were
still at school for some of the dates, but unfortunately we do not set your school holiday. We will see what we
can do in the next half term?
Kids Christmas Party
The Christmas party was very well attended with over 30 students joining in the fun. Traditional games were
played and there was plenty to eat. Thank you to all the parents that helped out and especially Emma Anstee who
wrote the names of each child on their cup cake, they were delicious!
Most Improved Awards
At the Christmas party we decided to awarded medals for the most improved student by age category.
The decisions were on performance during our short year taking into account overall ability and attitude towards
the dojo and member students. Each decision was very difficult and close to call, but in the end congratulations to:
Jake Wilson 5 to 7 years old
Daniel Anstee 8 to 10 years old
Aaran Fraser-Hitchin 10 to 12 years old
Tesco Vouchers
Many thanks for the short notice help in collecting the Tesco vouchers. During the short time that we announced
we were collecting we had nearly 1200 vouchers. Hopefully bean bags, a speed ladder, ankle skips, cones and
skipping ropes will be delivered to us before the spring term starts.
New Website
The club web site is now live at: www.camberleymartialarts.com once we get our heads round it, it will list all the
information you want regarding the dojo. If you see any deliberate mistakes then please let us know. Have already
spotted a few and these will be updated as we go.
New Monthly Subs
Hopefully everyone has picked up a leaflet detailing the new monthly subscriptions due to a 5% increase in hall rental.
Peter Lynham
Just before Christmas on the 12th December, the GKI association lost a young student called Peter Lynham. He
was only 20 and a fisherman working with father Paul and younger brother Robert, 17, on the family boat when
he went overboard. A rescue search could not find his body and to date a body has not been recovered. He had
done Goju Karate since he was 8 and although not one of our students for karate we have had the pleasure of
instructing him and his Dojo, kobudo for the last eight months. He was a GKI member, but was also a member
of Camberley Doko Kai and in turn Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinko Kai of which he will be sadly missed. The
family are holding a memorial in his name on Monday 22nd January, which we will be attending.
Sensei Pete Thompson, Peter’s instructor in Wessex will be holding an open day in February. All proceeds raised
will be in honour of Peter and donated to the family so they can give the donations collected to the rescue services
that helped out on that tragic day. Sensei Pete has asked if our dojo would like to join in and help a good cause. Of
course we would so watch this space for further details and a date.
Dojo Closed
Please note that the dojo will be closed Monday 22nd January 2007 for the memorial of Peter Lynham.
Class Time Change
Please also make a note that on Tuesday 23rd January 2007 the lesson will be moved from a 4 pm start to a 5 pm
start and finish at 6 pm. We apologise for this but occasionally we are asked to assess first aid on a Tuesday for
Surrey Ambulance Service.
Gradings
The Grading dates for this Year 2007 have been set as follows:-
Monday 5th March 2007 between 4 to 6 pm,
Monday 4th June 2007 between 4 to 6 pm,
Monday 10th September 2007 between 4 to 6 pm,

Several parents have asked if we can purchase separate GI bottoms and the answer is now YES. Please see us for
further details.
