Student of the Month

Last year we introduced most improved student over the course of our 1st year. This year we are going to

acknowledge student effort all year round with a student of the month nomination. The decision will be on overall

performance during the month taking into account ability and attitude towards the dojo, other member students

and generally towards their karate art.

January student of the month is: -

Harry Davies

Congratulations to Harry. He joined Paddock Hill Dojo a month after we opened starting as a once a week student

and now comes twice a week. This definitely shows in his improvement, attitude and enjoyment of his karate.

Website News

If you have any ideas or an article to post on the new web site at www.camberleymartialarts.com then please feel

free to discuss it with Sensei Andre or Sensei Daphne and we will do our best to load it as we are still playing

around with it!

Shihan Hennie

Paddock Hill Dojo was honoured to have a recent special visitor from Australia to the Dojo in Shihan Hennie De

Vries, Nana Dan (7th degree Black Belt). Our adult members attended his two seminars and this photo shows

two of our members who had just completed the morning karate session:

Dario Caruso and Sue Davies

Shihan also taught Ryukyu Kobudo in the second half of the seminar with history being made as we conducted

our first kobudo grading in the club to finish the day.

Congratulations go to the following students for achieving their kobudo grades:

Pete Thompson – 1st Kyu

Michael Jensen – 3rd Kyu

Robert Harcup – 3rd Kyu.

Peter Lynham

As we said in our January newsletter Sensei Pete Thompson, Peter’s instructor in Wessex will be holding an open

day in memory of Peter Lynham. This was going to be in February but the actual date set is Saturday 10th March.

All proceeds raised will be in honour of Peter and donated to the family so they can give the donations collected to

the rescue services that helped out on that tragic day when Peter lost his life. Sensei Pete has asked if our Dojo

would like to join in and help a good cause. Of course we said yes, so we plan to do a sponsored 2007 karate

techniques on Monday 26th February from 4 to 6 pm to raise funds and make the donation on the open day.

Please pick up a sponsorship form if you are willing to help and this will also be good training for the grading.

Grading 5th March 2007

Don’t forget the next grading is fast approaching and the date is set for Monday 5th March 2007 between

4 and 6 pm. To grade you will need a current licence and the proper attire. Required is a minimum 18 attendance

before a grading is even considered, so please ask Sensei for your eligibility. An examination fee of £10.00 is

payable on the day, which will include an exchange belt and certification if the student is successful. Don’t forget

if you keep your old belt then a new one will cost £4.00 to purchase.

Early Competition Date

Early indications are that this year’s competition will be held on Sunday 29th April in Chichester.
