21-Feb-2015: Referee's Course
Sensie Ernie has requested all Southern adult black belts make a
concerted effort to attend this course and help run the competition next week. Those
intending to referee are also asked to attend the course to help
train the less experienced grades. How it will work
The course will consist of running mock kata and kumite
competition using volunteers or each other. We will then compare and
more importantly discuss how the scoring was achieved and arrived at for each performance or bout.
We need volunteers
Any brown or black belt is welcome to volunteer to either
perform their kata and/or participate in the kumite competitions and be
judged accordingly. We hope individuals will see the very positive
benefits of being critiqued in this way as it will almost guarantee you
will be better prepared for the following competitions in the next few
weeks. Understanding how the judges and referees actual approach marking
your kata or scoring points in kumite is all part of winning in
competitions. Like wise knowing why you dropped the odd mark here and
there can really sharpen up your performance on the day. As Sensei Ernie
often says … there is nothing better as a catalyst to improving your
standard of karate than entering a competition. This opportunity is one
not to miss as you will understand why you are being marked up and down
on this occasion.
The objectives
The main object of the course is to bring on the next
generation of competition judges so we have a sustainable pool of
volunteers for competitions in the years to come.
Anyone can pass an opinion on whether a kata was performed
well or a point scored at kumite. What we set out to do is pass on the
knowledge and techniques of how to start scoring fairly and consistently
in line with your fellow senior judges.
The course is intended to be a light and enjoyable experience with everyone participating at all stages throughout the day.
There will be plenty of short breaks throughout the four hour
session, so bring your own drinks and lunch with you.
Venue: Crestwood College, Eastleigh, SO50 4FZ
Course times: Saturday 21st February 2015 - 12:00 to 16:00
